A new face on the Weekly Podcast scene, Snippet jumps into the 47th Episode of our indie music podcast with his tune ‘Absolutely Love’. Though new for most WP listeners, Snippet has been in existence since 2008, playing, creating and getting good hype for over 5 years. A frequent sound on the BBC 6- Snippet has a reputation for producing ‘vibrant British Pop’ in an original and fresh manner. Dive into its’ ‘Absolutely Love’ and you’ll get a good sense of what this eclectic artist is capable of producing.
With no prior knowledge of Snippet, I headed into the song unsure of what to expect. I heard the funky drops and guttural bass line and prepared myself for an absolutely loving electronic song. But after a few runs, the song took a surprising turn for the vocals. Johhno Casson immediately snags my ears and brain with quiet, persuasive vocals and lyrics, giving the song a whole new feel. I thought I was on the road to one of those interpret it yourself kind of songs, trying to squeeze out of the electronic keys and thumping bass what exactly ‘absolutely love’ meant. But with the introduction of words and Snippet’s vocal style, I knew exactly where the song was headed. I was able to sit back, relax, sip my musical pint and let Snippet do all the work.
With creative instrumentals dancing around the unique vocals and a great, funky bass line acting as the undertow, you get sucked right into this British Pop creation. If you’re into this track, you absolutely must check out the others featured on Snippet’s DIY album. Some boast a similar electronic feel to ‘Absolutely Love’, while others really take on the British Pop vibes (check out the first track ‘Let’s Talk About Us’, there’s no questioning the roots of this one). With well-produced, creative sounds, a seriously talented artist backing the tunes and a classic UK vibe- there’s no wondering why this artist and album is on the up. Find more of Snippet’s tunes on both SoundCloud as well as the band’s personal site, or keep your eyes on Weekly Podcast- I’m sure it won’t be the last of their tracks to be featured.
