Featured on Weekly Podcast’s 47th Episode- Inconsistent Jukebox and Dolll team up again to create another fantastic collaboration, this time with ‘World Wide Web’. When these two artists come together, there is no questioning the output will be fantastic. From works like ‘Cut You Down’ to ‘Last December’- their collab tracks are sharp, seriously funky and something that you want to hear over and over again. ‘World Wide Web’ doesn’t stray from this genre of addictive, and is another Weekly Podcast diamond.
When you think of the World Wide Web, a maelstrom of sounds, images and information comes to mind. It’s an endless fog of twisted numbers, data bits and who knows what else, swirling through this odd cyberspace that we all call home. When writing a song called ‘World Wide Web’, this mass chaos of sounds and whatnot must be taken into consideration- and Inconsistent Jukebox & Dolll do just this, and in a well manicured fashion.
With Dolll’s powerful vocals and lyrics about our miniscule nature in something outrageously bigger, the song has joined the rest of their collaborations in the addictive category.
The song kicks off with some great percussion and a killer bass line, but quickly tosses in the IT aspect of the WWW with the scattered sounds of sampling. Before long, the 1960’s Doors-esk electric keys kick in, bringing in the third different sound. Already the music has leapt through multiple decades and genres of music, and only in the first few seconds. With Dolll’s powerful vocals and lyrics about our miniscule nature in something outrageously bigger, the song has joined the rest of their collaborations in the addictive category. From the verses and breaks leading up to the catchy chorus, the entire song is a wild ride through a world wide web of musical sounds. With a 90’s No Doubt feel at certain points and memories of Cal Tjader at others- the song has it all… and as it should!
It’s representing the ever-flowing river of sounds, information and images that makes up the World Wide Web- so any song that is trying to convey this magnitude needs to be intricate as well. You could sit down for hours and pick apart all the different levels of this song, the different influences and styles that are being introduced- or you could just sit back and enjoy. You don’t sit and search the web all day just to see what’s inside, do you? So hats off to Inconsistent Jukebox and Dolll for their ‘World Wide Web’- another awesome tune birthed out of their great collaboration, with a theme that we’re all familiar with.
