As I Am have been working towards releasing their debut album nearly a year now. They have been releasing works periodically for the listening pleasure of followers, which have come out as part of the Interlude compilation. This musical release of Interlude is anything but a filler, however, and As I Am describes it as a “journey in and of itself.” One listen to the tracks and a bit of background knowledge of the artist, and you’ll understand a lot more when listening to these packed songs.
Though I could find absolutely nothing about the persons (or person?) behind As I Am, it was not hard to see the purpose and drive behind the artist’s music. As I Am uses their music not only for the listening pleasure of others, but also as a personal spiritual outlet. Great thought and energy goes into and behind each of the three tracks released on the Interlude, including the track featured on this week’s episode of Weekly Podcast. Lift Your Eyes to the Sky may come across as a psychedelic journey or an electronic/audible kind of Valium, but if you look a bit deeper into the song, there is actually a very strong message behind it.
As I Am describes this song as an approach to “only fill my mind with positive, beautiful thoughts.” It’s the musical result of optimism, hopefulness and a spring awakening for the mind. From the beats to the instrumental droplets, Lift Your Eyes to the Sky is encouraging the listener to soak in their surroundings, stay positive and quite literally, look up at the sky and take it all in. You can take the song anyway you’d like, but As I Am puts some beautiful meaning behind the tune that should be taken into perspective when playing the song over again.
All the tunes on As I Am’s debut album and Interlude are filled with this rich, spiritual backing. From songs like Balance and Supreme there is this great planning and meditation that has gone behind the songs, which makes them almost transcend their musical status. Or perhaps it’s exactly this spiritual backing that gives the songs their musical status. Up for debate with the listener. Either way, As I Am has produced some fantastic tracks, leaving us quite excited for the release of the debut album in August.
