New York City composer, guitar player and producer Gideon King may have been a hedge fund manager in another life, but he hides it well. Well-known and widely respected on the Manhattan jazz scene - and boasting a string of great reviews for his solo work - this versatile performer has recently collaborated with some of the world’s finest session players for a brand-new project he calls Gideon King & City Blog.
King’s ambition with the City Blog collective is to bring together the best fusion and jazz musicians from across the globe to support him in his pop, funk and crossover compositions. The pedigree of its members is indisputable - bassist James Genus, for instance, also performs with Herbie Hancock and Daft Punk, while keys player Kevin Hays has toured with John Scofield and recorded with Brad Mehldau. King’s team of handpicked vocalists combines established artists with up-and-coming stars, from Marc Broussard (world famous for his “Bayou Soul” sound) and Carolyn Leonhard (regular member of Steely Dan’s vocal team) to Grace Weber, recently seen on the Oprah Winfrey Show and awarded 2015’s “Best Artist On The Verge” by new Music Seminar.
As Gideon sees it, he’s “bringing back real music” to the world. Real instruments, real humans, real improvisation. Music to feed the soul. Find out more at the links below.
